Cameroon:Soon one can be able to change from any mobile operator(mtn,orange,nextel) without changing the phone number

In Yaounde yesterday Tuesday, was signed an implementation contract of portability in Cameroon between Huawei Technologies and telephone industry operators.

This was an awesome and cheerful atmosphere to know that all mobile operators signed the contract yesterday with Huawei Technologies which covers the implementation of portability in Cameroon. Portability is the ability for a customer to use the same subscription number, regardless of the operator or the grid operator to which he subscribes, even if the customer is changing operators or operator .

According to François Kamgam, the third technical advisor to the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART), “portability will provide many benefits to subscribers, in that it increases the margin and the degree of freedom. Today one has the freedom of subscribing to an operator but once home, he/she faces challenges such as informing the family or friends that the number has been changed.

The instant portability will be implemented; the subscriber will not have this concern as already discussed above. He/she can go from one operator to another while keeping the same number”, says the adviser, also chairman of the implementation committee of portability in Cameroon. This source says that even economically, the benefits are many. The market thus signed yesterday between Huawei Technologies and operators has a delivery time of seven months. If everything is done in time, portability will be finalized by November 2016.

If MTN and Viettel (Nexttel)  opted to salute this initiative of ART, it means that portability will guarantee a healthy and vigorous competition between operators, Orange side, "It is indeed an instrument to salute but implementation will not be easy. Especially as the database to build will still cost 1.5 billion F for operators, "says Elisabeth Medou Badang, CEO of Orange Cameroon.

Today, while Huawei is currently installing the centralized database for portability , ART has undertaken the initiative to inform and educate consumers about the upcoming change . Similarly, there are provisions on service quality and penalties for failures to write. Because with the signing yesterday, operators undertook to respond to malfunctions in the context of portability and ART will apply sanctions .
