SONG MADE HEAD COACH OF CAMEROON

Former Cameroonian skipper Rigobert Song has been appointed as the head coach for the locally based Cameroon side replacing Martin Ndtoungou Mpile who was in charge at Chan 2016 in Rwanda.
Song, who was announced on Thursday at a press conference that also saw Hugo Broos unveiled to the media as head coach of the senior side, will maintain the same backroom staff.
Ernest Agbor is the assistant coach while goalkeeping coach Simon Nlend and physical fitness coach Narcisse Tinkeu have retained their roles on the side.
Cameroon reached the quarterfinals at the recently concluded Chan 2016 where they lost to Ivory Coast 3-0, conceding all three goals in extra time.
The Indomitable Lions had finished top of Group B with seven points after registering two wins in the group stages, a 1-0 win over Angola in their opener before Ethiopia forced a goalless draw but a 3-1 victory over DR Congo ensured a place at the helm of the log.
The 39-year old Song, who has until recently been in charge of Chad, is expected to bring a lot of his playing experience into his new role at the helm of this side as they prepare for Chan 2018 in Kenya.
Song is the most capped player in the history of Cameroonian football with 137 appearances and has played at four World Cups including 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010 as well as featuring at a record eight Africa Cup of Nations where he still holds the record of 35 consecutive first team games.
He won two Afcon titles with the Indomitable Lions in 2000 after beating Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw and in 2002 they defeated Senegal 3-2 on penalties following a goalless draw.
