Andong Ashu conducted the bogus examinations to begin abusing the girl
The 45-year-old carried out the assaults on the girl in Hull, East Yorkshire
Ashu, from Manchester, would regularly pay victim to maintain her silence
Youngster eventually plucked up the courage to report her ordeal to police
–
An NHS scientist granted asylum in Britain has been jailed for the abuse
and rape of a young girl while performing fake medical examinations.
Cameroon-born Andong Ashu, 45, conducted the bogus examinations to begin abusing the girl when she was just 11 years old.
Andong Ashu outside Hull Crown Court
The assaults, which happened in Hull, East Yorkshire, then became progressively more serious until Ashu began raping her.
The victim tried to fight him off and told him to stop, but was ignored, a court heard.
Ashu was convicted by a jury at Hull Crown Court of four counts of
rape and seven other sexual assaults by majority verdicts and jailed for
21 years.
Ashu occasionally gave his victim £10 or £20 to maintain her silence,
but she eventually plucked up the courage to report her ordeal to
police.
The scientist is originally from Cameroon and was granted asylum after arriving in the UK in 2002 as a refugee.
He obtained a university degree before working in NHS laboratories.
Ashu, who still protests his innocence, forced the girl to relive her ordeal by giving evidence at his trial.
Richard Woolfall, prosecuting, read two victim personal statements
from the woman, who was brave enough to attend court to give evidence
against Ashu during his trial.
‘She feels, in future, if she marries, she will not be able to trust her husband,’ Mr Woolfall said.
‘She used to be a religious person but finds now that her belief in God has gone as a result of this.’
He said she had problems sleeping since the abuse, but now felt she was getting her confidence back.
Sentencing him at the same court on Thursday, Judge Jeremy Richardson
QC told him: ‘Andong Abong Ashu, you are a depraved individual who
visited appalling debauchery upon [the victim].
‘You repeatedly sexually abused her in a vile fashion. You will be punished severely for your crimes.
‘You are aged 45 years and you fall for sentence in respect of 11 counts of serious sexual crimes.
‘You forced a trial and you were found guilty on each count by verdict of the jury.
‘The majority of the jury saw through your bogus denial. You have
forfeited what would have been potent mitigation by a guilty plea.
‘Your conduct was both calculating and cruel. You engaged in vile
sexual abuse. It was painful to listen to [the victim] giving her
evidence of what you did.
‘You betrayed every item of trust reposed in you. You commenced your
abuse on the pretext of undertaking some form of medical or physical
inspection of her.
‘You spared her nothing. She was accused of telling lies. You put
that girl through torment when you did what you did, and you added to
her torment by forcing her to relive those appalling events.
‘She still has feelings of worthlessness, finds it hard to trust people, and found giving evidence an utter ordeal.’
Ashu, of Manchester, must serve at least half his sentence before he
can be considered for release, and had an additional year added to his
licence period.
He must sign the sex offenders register for life and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order of indefinite duration.

This picture of them holding hands today in London has sent tongues
wagging on social media. At first I thought KB readers were being petty
(as usual *wink) for capitalising on it, but then after a little
research I realised that tongues are wagging on other platforms too.

Still think the hand-holding thing is just bromance...
33-year-old Oluwabunmi and her 42-year-old husband, Bankole Ogidan both
pictured above, welcomed their first child at a hospital in Ogun state
on Wednesday January 27th from a pregnancy she reportedly carried for
four years.
Narrating the unusual experience to The Nation, Bankole who has been married to Oluwabunmi since August 2011 said
“We were full of hope about having children and raising a complete
family. But we had to wait till August 2013 before she got pregnant
exactly two years after.
We went for
pregnancy test and it was confirmed positive. A few days after, my wife
complained that she was feeling pains in her womb. We went to a midwife
who told us that the pain was not a problem; that the pregnancy was
intact. I was not satisfied, so I took her to another hospital (name
withheld) where we did a scan but the doctor said he didn’t see any
pregnancy. The doctor said there had been a miscarriage. I asked him
that shouldn’t there be an outflow of blood if she had a miscarriage?
The doctor said yes. I told him that we had not witnessed anything like
that and he was shocked.".
Worried
by the doctor’s report, Bankole decided to seek spiritual help and so
he went to meet with the pastor of his church, Prophet Emmanuel Ogbara,
who assured him that God had told him the pregnancy was intact. A couple
of weeks later, Bankole went back with his wife to the hospital but
they were told that what she had in her womb was fibroid. They left for
the General Hospital, Gbagada, where they were asked to see a
gynaecologist. Again, the gynaecologist told them that what he saw in
Oluwabunmi’s stomach was multiple fibroid with no chance of conception.
“All
this while, my wife’s menstruation had ceased,” Bankole said. “It was
only once after the pregnancy was sighted that we observed that little
blood came out but stopped almost immediately. We left there for the
Government Hospital in Owode, Ogun State. Thereafter, we returned for a
scan session. The gynaecologist said there were three sets of fibroid
where the baby ought to be, but that the way my wife looked, she
appeared like a woman who was ready for delivery. He said he would act
fast and do an x-ray that would reveal more. That was on March 25, 2014.
We did the x-ray but we were told that though they believed in God,
from all medical indications, there was no more pregnancy in the womb.
They said the uterus was elongated, blocked with a concentration of
urine fibroid and the white fallopian tube was outlined. They concluded
that it was fibroid. I asked if she could get pregnant and they said
no.”
Meanwhile,
Oluwabunmi’s stomach had protruded as if she was due for delivery.
Bankole said he could not even think of sleeping with his wife because
of the delicate nature of her condition all through the period.
“There
was pressure from all corners, family, friends and well-wishers, who
all had their suggestions as to the solution. Some said we were hearing
wrongly from God,” he said.
Asked
if he was not afraid that his wife would die in the process of waiting
for a baby, he said:
“I did not worry about death at all. I was only
more inspired to wait on God. As a matter of fact, we stopped going for
medical opinion. As far as we were concerned, they had no good news for
us, so we resorted to our church and prayer. On the 10th of September,
2015, my wife became terribly ill with signs of labour. I had to look
for any hospital in sight because her condition was bad. That was how we
got to this hospital. After giving her the initial treatment, we were
told to go for another scan. To the glory of God, the doctor here said
he had seen a baby; that my wife was carrying four months pregnancy.”
But
the mystery was how the pregnancy could be four months old when
he was not making love to his wife, and his wife’s protruding stomach
was there for all to see?
“At
the church, the prophet confirmed again that the child had all along
been there; only that scan could not pick it. So the hospital continued
to nurture the baby for antenatal. But here again, they still saw
fibroid in the womb. But to the glory of God 27th January this year, our
baby finally arrived,” Bankole said.
But that was not all. During the delivery, the baby was said to have “got lost” in the womb.
The
hospital’s matron said: “We had to do an operation. When we did, we
found that contrary to scan reports, we met a different thing in the
womb. It was a sac with pus inside. It was not fibroid. And looking
inside, we didn’t see any baby. But I remembered that I used to hear
sound inside Mrs Ogidan’s womb, so the doctor searched further; the baby
was hidden in the uterus. We thank God. It’s a miracle. The sac was so
big that it swallowed up the uterus where the baby was. The sac was so
big that the uterus could not be easily found. The doctor said he had
never seen such a thing before.”
Speaking
on the uniqueness of Oluwabunimi's pregnancy, Dr Sam Akinyemi, a
consultant on naturopathic gynaecologist,
“This is an abnormal medical
record. But nothing is impossible in this world. All homo sapiens must
take note of that. It is the joy of every pregnant woman that at 40
weeks or before then, the woman must fall into labour. When it does not
happen, it becomes a major concern to the physician and the patient
herself. In natural medical gynaecology, we have had cases of that
nature. It can be the result of retardation in hormonal production in
the pregnant patient or mother. And metaphysically, nature won’t seize
to amaze us in its power.”
According to the world corruption perception index in 2015, through
which NGO Transparency International ranked 167 countries, Cameroon
landed the 34th spot in Africa, and 130th at the global level. Thus, the
country is in the top 40 of the most corrupted countries in the world.
Compared to end of the 90’s, Cameroon has really progressed in this
ranking, which had twice seen Cameroon take the top spot for corruption
at the world level in 1998 and 1999. Even
though the phenomenon has decreased compared to the 90’s, thanks to the
establishment of structures fighting against this social evil,
corruption however remains one of biggest challenges to the social and
economic development of the country.
For example, in its activity report for 2013 recently made public, the
National Anti-Corruption Commission acknowledges that “2013 saw the
evolution and sophistication of corruption techniques” in the country.
I DONT UNDERSTAND why there is no honesty list yet..maybe its time we get on it.
A U.S company stimulated statistics has revealed that Arsenal will win
the league, Leicester will finish in the top four, Man United will
miss out on the Champions League again and Norwich, Sunderland and
Villa will be at the bottom of the table.
The predicted table is based on each premier league
match for the remainder of the season being simulated 10,000 times to
get a vital statistics. According to it, Arsenal are in pole position
to win the Premier League this season despite currently being three
points off league leaders Leicester, The Gunners have a 45.3 percent
chance of finishing top of the table, three percent better than
Manchester City. However it's bad news for Manchester United, as the
statistics suggest they'll miss out on champions league for the second
time in three years, with Tottenham and Leicester filling the other top
four spots.
According to this same report, Leicester have just a 4.4 percent chance
to finishing top of the league, less than 5.6 percent chance of a very
fit Spurs, United have a 48 per cent chance of making the top four, but
are predicted to fall two points short of Leicester in fourth spot, and
despite their bad start to the season, Chelsea still have a 3.3 per cent
chance to make the Champions League.
At the other end of the table, Aston Villa stand next to no chance to
surviving the drop. The statistics claim that they have a 99 per cent
chance to going down, Sunderland are poised to follow them down, while
Norwich and Newcastle will battle it out to the end.

The former president of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP)
thinks that the problems of Cameroon are not related to the person of
Paul Biya. Bernard Muna was speaking in an interview with the daily Le
Jour of 25 January 2016.during, which he was posed a question that” some
senators and high officials of the Republic have started to invite Paul
Biya to be candidate. Bernard MunaWhat
is your comment on these multiple calls? Bernard Muna responded that
“As long as Paul Biya is alive he has the right to run for another term
in 2018 because the Constitution gives him that right. I think the
problems our country faces are not related to the person of Biya, but
the DPRK usually because several activists appointed to certain
positions of responsibility are taking advantage of their position to
embezzle public funds.
Some are already in prison. But it is important that if Paul Biya
wins in 2018 he found other people to whom he should entrust the
responsibilities in the government of Cameroon for the change policy.”
In another question wanted to know what Bernard Muna learned
from the last speech of Paul Biya to the nation.to, which he responded.
“ The person who advised the President of the Republic to talk about
family allowances was misleading because the family allowance only
involves officials. We must extend this measure to all Cameroonians
including those in the informal sector.
The announcement of the head of state is perceived as discriminatory
because only officials concerned. The second observation is that the
president decides to lower fuel prices when oil prices fell
internationally. And here, the reduction would be substantial. Lower the
price of fuel at 20 CFA francs per litter it is insignificant and this
measure does not seem to have a positive impact on the lives of
Cameroonians.”
And as to Why Bernard Muna left the presidency of the AFP, Bernard
Muna said, “ My departure is justified by the party’s constitution. I
think that if a political party does not take seriously its statutes, if
we violate each time, it is not when you are president you’ll always
respect the Constitution of Cameroon. Secondly, I also think that at the
age of 76 years, it was time that I pass the baton to the next
generation including youth, because tomorrow it is these young people
who will be elected presidents, who will go to the Assembly national
will and energy to represent us in other public administrations”.

Eritrean men have been asked by the government to marry more than one wife or risk being jailed for life.
This is contained in a statement in Arabic by the Grand Mufti (the
highest official of religious law in the country) which scanned copy
surfaced on social media sites on Thursday last week.
In the statement, Eritrea called for all men in the country to marry
at least two wives and the government assured the men that it would pay
for the marriage ceremonies and houses.
TheThe document in Arabic,
which is in Arabic, says, “Based on the law of God in polygamy, and
given the circumstances which the country is experiencing in terms of
men shortage, the Eritrean department of Religious Affairs has decided
on the following:
“First that every man shall marry at least two women and the man who
refuses to do so shall be subjected to life imprisonment with hard
labour.
“The woman who tries to prevent her husband from marrying another wife shall be punished to life imprisonment.”
More than 150,000 Eritrean soldiers were killed during the secession
war from Ethiopia between 1998 and 2000. At the time Eritrea had about
four million people.
Eritrea, is a country in theHorn of Africa. With its capital
at Asmara, it is bordered by Sudan in the west, Ethiopia in the south,
and Djibouti in the southeast. The northeastern and eastern parts of
Eritrea have an extensive coastline along the Red Sea, across from Saudi
Arabia and Yemen.
The nation has a total area of approximately 117,600 km, and includes
the Dahlak Archipelago and several of the Hanish Islands. Its name Eritrea is based on the Greek name for the Red Sea, which was first adopted for Italian Eritrea in 1890.
The country ranks that worst (189 out of 189) on the World Bank’s ease-of-doing-business index.
President Biya is poised to create the post of vice president that would
be occupied by an Anglophone in consonance with the bicultural and
linguistic balance of power in the country; as i leaned. If everything goes as planned, according to our sources, the government
will table a bill on the creation of the post of vice president during
the first parliamentary session for 2016 in March. Observers say if the
issue becomes a reality, it will be a feeble attempt by President Biya
to render political justice to Anglophones who have been complaining
about marginalisation. Until things went wrong, it was an unwritten law
that once the head of state is a Francophone, the second would be an
Anglophone.

My Testimony: I recall in the early beginning of 2014, an old man
woke me up from bed to inform me about the death of a young girl who
died two weeks after she had put to
birth a baby boy. The old man further beseeched me on behalf of the
family of the deceased if I could help cater for the two weeks old baby.
Truth lay bare, I was frightened for I had no experience raising up a
baby, not to talk of my own. I however followed the old man to the
funeral ground and found the baby lying lonely on a bed in a smoke
kitchen crying to himself. This filled me with pity and compassion.
Carrying the baby in my arms, I wept! I later called on the family
members of the departed and asked if there was any one of them who could
take care of the baby while I handle the costs but everyone present
claimed they were married and had their own kids and families to look
after. I returned home grieved, made a few arrangements and the next
day I brought in the child. My mum and everyone around me were afraid of
my decision and looking at the condition of the child, they were scared
the baby will not survive. Even the family of the baby’s mother denied
the child for this same fear since there were rumors that the mother
died of HIV. First thing I did when I arrived home was getting into my
room with the baby in my arms, locked the door, went down on my knees
and prayed this prayer “Lord Jesus you said anything we ask in your name
shall be given if only we believe. Father you are the giver of life, so
I ask you to please help me keep this child alive and make him a great
person so that his story may inspire others. I believe in you Lord.
Amen”. I named the boy Caleb and today no one can believe this is the
two weeks old baby whose mother died leaving him behind. He is the
strongest, smartest and sweetest amongst children I have come across. He
will start school September this year. I am not rich. I barely even
have enough for myself and this kid didn’t survive because of the
materials I could give but because of the love and passion which we all
can share with one another if only we allow ourselves and believe. Thank
you to those who have supported me all through and thanks and courage
to all those helping one another in different ways around the world. God
bless you. Attached are pictures of Caleb at various stages. By, Seta

After a grueling journey from a small village in Cameroon,
Pierre Nzuah, 30, has landed himself in a master’s program at Clarkson
University.
Now, he is supporting elementary education in his home village
through a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) he started with Ellen J.
Rocco called Against All Odds: Outreach for Learning. Ellen
Rocco, left, with Pierre Nzuah on Thursday in Canton, holds a digital
photo of the mud brick schoolhouse Mr. Nzuah attended as a child in
Cameroon
“I said I wanted to get an education because afterward, with my
education, I want to help people back home in a similar situation,” Mr.
Nzuah said. “That’s exactly what we are doing now.”
Mr. Nzuah started his education in his hometown of Baligham, a
village of about 10,000 people. After primary school, which is about the
equivalent of seventh grade, Mr. Nzuah’s only option for furthering his
education was to travel 10 miles by foot to Santa, a market town where a
secondary school was located.
He made the trip down the dirt road each week with everything he
needed to live on his own, including all of his food, and rented a room,
often with another student. This began at the age of 14.
He was one of only five students from his elementary class of 37 who
sought education beyond primary school, and one of two to complete a
secondary education.
“The percentage that go beyond primary school is very low,” Mr. Nzuah said.
After completing his secondary education, Mr. Nzuah enrolled in a
year-long computer course and took on a job at a cyber café. While an
employee at the café, Mr. Nzuah began researching colleges.
“I wasn’t making any money working at a cyber café 14 hours a day,” he said.
Mr. Nzuah came across SUNY Potsdam originally, but was redirected to
SUNY Canton because he was looking to pursue an electrical engineering
degree. After submitting transcripts, Mr. Nzuah was accepted at SUNY
Canton.
“I knew I was coming to SUNY Canton, but I had no idea about where I
was going,” Mr. Nzuah joked, referring to the harsh weather in the north
country. He said he left on an 80-degree day in Cameroon, and arrived
in sub-zero temperatures in Syracuse days before his first semester in
January 2011.
After his first semester, Mr. Nzuah realized he had nowhere to stay over the summer.
“At the end of my first semester, I had no place to go,” Mr. Nzuah said. “I couldn’t go home because I didn’t have the money.”
Through a connection at the First Presbyterian Church, where Mr.
Nzuah attended services, he found lodging on the farm of Ms. Rocco, who
was in need of a summer intern. Mr. Nzuah worked on the farm helping
with hay, maintaining the barn and caring for animals.
“Pierre, within a few months, became a son,” Ms. Rocco said.
“It was one of those miracles,” Mr. Nzuah added.
Mr. Nzuah said he immediately made his intentions of giving back to his Cameroonian village known.
“The first time I met Ellen I made it clear to her that I wanted to get an education and then help kids back home,” he said.
“He really was struggling the whole time he was here, so there was no
money to go home,” Ms. Rocco said. “We decided that starting an NGO
would be a great way to arrive back home after almost five years, and he
could give back to his village,”
The two began planning a trip to Cameroon and scheduled it for after
Mr. Nzuah’s graduation from SUNY Canton, where he received his
bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in May 2015. He is now
working toward a master’s degree from Clarkson in electrical engineering
with a focus on power systems.
Fundraising on a GoFundMe page produced around $9,000 for supplies
and trip expenses. Mr. Nzuah and Ms. Rocco purchased chalk, pens and
soccer balls for the schools and brought them along.
“We went back to Cameroon, to his village with the intent of
identifying the elementary schools in his village that needed help,” Ms.
Rocco said.
For two weeks, the pair traveled to seven elementary schools in the
area and gave out 88 scholarships for primary school students to
continue their education for a year, and also purchased 150 wooden desks
for the children.
“The idea was to scholarship as many kids as possible,” Ms. Rocco said.
Mr. Nzuah said each of the 88 children have the opportunity to earn a
scholarship each year for the remainder of their elementary school
education. They also hope to double the number of scholarships this year
when they return to Cameroon in early summer.
“We raise money, online mostly,” Ms. Rocco said. “It’s ongoing; we’re constantly raising money for it.”
Ms. Rocco said the NGO hopes to raise $13,500 for the next round of donations.
A donation of $20 sends one Cameroonian child to elementary school for one year, according to Ms. Rocco.

West Ham midfielder Alex Song has revealed that he struggles to see when he plays with his protective glasses on.
The 28-year-old started Saturday's 2-2 drew with Manchester City
wearing his specially-fitted spectacles but quickly discarded them.
Alex
SongThe Cameroon international suffers from an eye problem and dons the
eyewear to prevent an infection, but it is not an ideal situation as
the glasses can be restrictive.
"I have an eye problem so I have to wear the glasses," he told the Times.
"The doctor said if I caught an infection it would be very bad. It's not good when I'm playing without the protection.
Song's condition means he struggles to see in the dark or rain while
his vision also fails him when he wears the glasses under a stadium's
floodlights.
"Sometimes I have to play without them because I can't see properly but it's a risk.
"I have to be careful because it's not good for the future. I have to keep wearing them until the doctor tells me not to.
"Today [against Manchester City] was a very hard start to the game and then I took them off because I couldn't see properly."
Sergio Aguero's late strike salvaged a point for City at Upton Park
but Slaven Bilic's side are still well placed in sixth, just six points
shy of the top four.
Song's campaign has been disrupted by injury but he is determined to
retain full fitness and help the Hammers during the second half of the
season.
"If I'm 100 per cent, I know what I can do. I know I can fly," he added.
