Why is Alex Song not wanted anywhere?

alex
Kevin Darling on the rise, fall and plummet of West Ham’s Barcelona loanee who looked a world beater two years ago but is now relegated to the reserves.

When Alex Song outclassed Yaya Toure in a dominant midfield display as West Ham beat Manchester City 2-1 at Upton Park in October 2014, something didn’t feel right about it.

Anyone who witnessed the dreadlocked Cameroonian’s majestic performance – relentlessly winning tackles, gracefully orchestrating attacks, heroically leading his team-mates – was left baffled at how Sam Allardyce’s uninspiring Hammers outfit been allowed to sign a bona-fide world class talent from Barcelona for free and then unleash him on the Premier League with devastating effect.

A La Liga winner at the Nou Camp, a star of Arsenal’s midfield until his big-money move to Spain, not old, not injured, playing for West Ham when he was plainly good enough to walk into any team in England. What was the catch?

Did he have an underlying medical issue? Was he about to be arrested for arms trading? Was it the strange way he wore his shorts? Was it his wacky dress sense involving an array of extremely silly hats?
Apparently not. For Hammers fans, the catch was simply that they had only signed Song on loan (albeit on a sensational deal that meant Barca would pay the entirety of his reported £90,000-a-week wages for the season). And while they dreamed of somehow negotiating a permanent transfer for their new star player, it seemed certain that once the year was up he would move on to bigger and better things.
It hasn’t quite worked out that way.

Eighteen months later, Song is still at West Ham, and still on loan. But Friday’s news that Norwegian defensive midfielder Havard Nordtveit will move to east London in the summer looks like the final confirmation of what many have long suspected: Song is no longer wanted in east London. And worryingly for the 28-year-old, he doesn’t appear to be much in demand anywhere else either.

After being relegated to the bench in recent weeks, Song has not even made the squad in West Ham’s last two matches, despite not being injured. It is rumoured that the club would be forced to sign him permanently if he plays a certain number of games this season – something they appear very keen not to do.
With a year still to run on the five-year contract he signed at Barca in 2012, Song is set to return to the club who can’t seem to give him away. They’ve already tried once.

Last summer, West Ham had a free run at a player who only months earlier was considered to be out of their league. In July 2015 reports emerged that the Hammers would sign Song for a “knockdown” £5m – a fraction of his value when he first joined them.

However, this already bargainous price was soon downgraded to a free transfer – seemingly a sensational coup for a player of Song’s quality – but the Hammers decided against that too.
With question marks over an ankle injury Song had sustained at the tail-end of last season, chairman David Sullivan opted for another year loan, with an option to buy.
Another reason for the new-found caution was that Song’s form over the course of the 2014/15 season had deteriorated.

Although he sustained the exceptional level of his Man City display until Christmas, at which time the Hammers were making an unlikely push for a Champions League spot, from January onwards both club and player went emphatically off the boil.
While Allardyce paid for the team’s slump with his job, Song’s demise was more mysterious. The Hollywood passes that always found their mark in the first half of the season suddenly became liabilities that frequently gifted away possession. The tenacity of Song’s early displays was replaced by a more lackadaisical air.
With injury cited as a potential factor, the Hammers took what Sullivan called a “gamble” to sign Song for a second season. But after being ruled out in the opening months of the campaign, Song appears to have been fighting fit ever since.

The question marks now appear to be over his ability to cut it at the top level.
There have been good moments this season, notably another imposing performance in the home match against Man City in January, but also nonchalant showings that have frustrated the crowd which adored him a year ago.

One addition to Song’s wacky wardrobe this season has been a pair of protective eye glasses – worn for medical rather than fashion reasons. Song tossed the spectacles aside half-way through the aforementioned Man City match because he claimed he could see better without them.
But entertaining eye-wear has not been enough to propel Song ahead of Cheikou Kouyate, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang in Slaven Bilic’s midfield pecking order – and the Croatian is not the first manager to eschew Song’s obvious assets.

Barcelona’s Luis Enrique won’t give him a look-in, Cameroon excluded him from their squad following the 2014 World Cup and prompted his retirement from international football, while Arsene Wenger has shown no desire to take Song back to Emirates despite his obvious availability.
The only team offering an olive branch to Song last summer were West Ham – and even then only on their own hugely advantageous terms – and now they don’t want him either.

But can a great player become a bad one overnight? Has Song already lost it at 28? Is he really such an objectionable character? Would Barcelona fork out £15m for a mug?
Surely not, which means there is only one explanation for his current predicament. It’s those silly hats.

MTN Cameroon to re-register its subscribers until June 2016

The Cameroonian subsidiary of the South African telecommunications operator MTN International announced on 11 April 2016 in an official communiqué that it was launching a national campaign to re-register its subscribers.

This campaign which will last until June 2016, the operator stressed, “is meant to verify the identity of MTN subscribers and register those who are not yet subscribers. Through this new campaign, MTN Cameroon is working to fully comply with the directives of the Prime Minister, who, through a decree issued on 3 September 2015, provided new directions to mobile operators in the subscribers registration process”.

To all its subscribers, MTN Cameroon is advising that to ensure that their previous registrations comply with the new requirements formulated by the government, each one of them “can send a free SMS with the word “Status” to 8758. If the return SMS indicates the registration as incomplete, the subscriber must absolutely get registered again, to avoid having their number deactivated from the network starting from 1st July 2016”.
On this subject, we can recall that during the 2014-2015 period, mobile operators in Cameroon had to suspend about 6 million mobile chips deemed “suspect”, the telecoms regulatory body revealed in October 2015, during a meeting on the economic consequences of the Simbox fraud in Cameroon.

The new directives from the government in terms of registration of subscribers in the mobile sector, we note, come in a context marked by the terrorist attacks committed in Cameroon by the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram, attacks in which mobile telephones were sometimes used to activate the explosives carried by kamikazes.

At the same time, the Sim box fraud is growing in the country. This practice which consists in, through the use of a batch of SIM cards, making international calls as if they were national calls, officially led to the loss of about FCfa 18 billion by the four local mobile operators in 2015, and cost FCfa 4 billion to the Cameroonian state in unpaid taxes on the calls thus diverted.

BBC:Cameroon (Buea) is the new home of tech innovation.(watch video of young entrepreneurs).

 bbc

Privately-owned tech start-ups - or 'unicorns' - are worth more than a billion dollars and Africa has its first one in the shape of the Africa Internet Group.

While many think the next one will emerge from the obvious technology centres in Nairobi, Cape Town or Lagos, it is just possible that it may come from Buea - a small town in south-west Cameroon.

The BBC's Tamasin Ford finds out more for Africa Business Report.

It is amazing to know that the President's call for Cameroonian youths to get innovative with the use of modern technology was already being widely exhibited. In as much as the town of Buea is definitely the land of Education and entertainment of all sorts, it is now becoming the top environment with the hottest and highly ambitious young tech minds like the likes of Njorku, ActiveSpaces, ColorFluid just to name a few

We can only hope that it gets better with time. However, the question is, where is the Cameroon government in all this? What are they doing to ensure that these young  minds with this awesome projects can have them exhibited successfully. Like I said, we can only but hope for progress in this sector.

Didier Drogba says he is launching legal action against Daily Mail as concerns his Charity

 drogba
Didier Drogba says he is launching legal action against Daily Mail for claiming only £14,000 of £1.7m raised by his charity went to good causes.

The Didier Drogba Foundation is now being investigated by the Charity Commission after a report found much of funds raised were ‘languishing’ in bank accounts or spent on ‘lavish’ fundraisers
The former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said he will launch legal action against the Daily Mail after it published an article claiming £1.7m donated to his charity had not reached those they were intended for.

A Mail report on the Didier Drogba Foundation claims only1 per cent (£14,115) of donations made by high-profile people, royals and business people in the UK over five years had gone to good causes. It also claims £439,321 was spent on fundraising parties while the rest of the funds were “languishing” in bank accounts.

The foundation raises money for the development of a hospital, clinics and educating children in the Ivory Coast, in West Africa. Celebrity backers of the foundation include Princess Beatrice, David Beckham, Bono, Frank Lampard and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

The Mail claims that out of up to five clinics scheduled to be built, only one has been constructed and has no staff or medical equipment. The foundation is now under investigation by the Charity Commission. The commision says it has “serious regulatory concerns about a number of compliance issues raised” and has contacted the charity seeking an urgent response.

David Holdsworth, the chief operating officer at the commission said: “In particular, the commission has concerns about the administration of the charity and the oversight provided by trustees, all of whom appear to live abroad, as well as allegations that the charity has provided misleading information to donors and the public. Further, the charity has raised and accumulated significant sums of money that have not yet been spent and further information is required over the plans to spend those funds. All these issues merit further investigation by the commission.”

In a statement on Instagram, Drogba accused the newspaper of “irresponsible journalism” which he claimed had jeopardised the lives of thousands of African children.

Drogba said all of the foundation’s work since its launch in 2007 was paid for entirely by his sponsorship earnings and donations, totalling €3.7m (£295,000). Projects established by the foundation include a mobile clinic operating in Abidjan, which travels to villages to treat people, a dialysis machine, the Project Against Child Labour scheme, the Heart Schools kits and supporting orphanages.

He said the £1.7m raised by UK fundraising would go towards making the foundation clinic fully operational and paying for medical equipment, staff, medicine and running costs.
_
“Despite sending legal letters and 67 pages worth of documents advising the Daily Mail that their information was factually incorrect and libellous, they have decided to ignore the facts so I am issuing legal proceedings against them today,” his statement reads.

“They have already caused an untold amount of damage by contacting all of my sponsors, my colleagues and many of my friends who generously helped the foundation with donations, and raise doubts in their mind about whether to continue to support us in the future.

“I come from a poor family and I had to work hard to get where I am today but this would mean nothing to me if I wasn’t ale to give back to my country, my continent, and my community.
“Despite their claims, there is no fraud, no corruption, no mismanagement, no lies, no impropriety.
“Their attempts to destroy the work of the foundation will not deter me and will not stop me continuing the work we have begun.”
A spokesman for the Mail told The Independent: “The Daily Mail stands by every word of this important story which was the result of long and painstaking research by our award-winning investigative team and which has prompted an investigation by the Charity Commission.
“The documents provided to us by the Didier Drogba Foundation failed to address the very serious questions posed by our journalists.

“Despite numerous requests for a comment on the record, no substantive response was provided.
“Our article does not make allegations of fraud or corruption.”
A representative for Drogba declined to comment any further.

Samuel Eto'o as main character in new African Video Game "MooEtoo" (+Video/photo)

"MooEtoo" is a video game dedicated to the Cameroon star Samuel Eto'o. While the launch is expected in 12 to 14 months, video game creation studio SDK Africa Games has launched a crowd funding operation.
This crowd funding campaign contributions ranges from 1 to 1000 US dollars. The goal is to collect a sum of 25,000 dollars to finance the creation of the game.

In "MooEtoo , you will live the adventures of a young boy named Eto'o. He was born in a small African suburb and must find a way to become an accomplished man. To achieve his goals, Eto'o will exploit not only his football talent, but also his ability to avoid trouble in a hostile environment: jealousy, survival of the difficulties associated with lack of money, "promising that the game the room is located in South Africa.

"The user / player will thus be caught in an adventure combining multiple types of game play. Throughout the game, Eto'o goes through many imaginary cities but inspired by actual African cities. He looks for football fields where he can express his talent and new challenges. During this exploration, Eto'o faces many obstacles and must find clever ways to dodge. He must also ask selfless acts that will appeal to the hearts of local people and increase the number of his fans. It may also be required to spend a bit of cash already stored for possible additional fans, "the statement added.

Yves Christian Fongang , one of the promising SDK added: " SDK offers all the unique opportunity to make history by participating in the creation of the first video game inspired by the path of Samuel Etoo
"If our initial goal of 25,000 US dollars is reached, only 60% of this amount will be dedicated to the design of the game. 10 to 15% of the amount will be donated to an African artist to design the music of the game. The rest of the money will go to donors thank- action and promotion of the game on social networks " he explains.

Chibok’s girls: video appears to show some kidnapped girls by Boko Haram alive [+video]

chibok

Maiduguri, Nigeria (CNN)They were stolen from their beds in a school dormitory: hundreds of teenage girls kidnapped by gunmen.

A few dozen escaped to tell of the night Boko Haram militants brought terror to a Nigerian girls’ school.
From the rest, silence. No sign of where they had been taken or what could have happened to them for almost two years, even as the world screamed #BringBackOurGirls.
Hundreds of parents left, day after day, night after night, and then months with no information.
Until now.

CNN obtained a video of some of the “Chibok Girls” sent to negotiators by their captors as a “proof of life.”
The video had been seen by negotiators and some members of the government.
But no one had shown the parents. Until now.

Louis van Gaal is either lucky or has a magic touch.

The under-fire Manchester United manager saw his side book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals after a hard-fought win at West Ham
van gaal
Louis Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has a remarkable knack of getting a result just when he needs it most.
On Wednesday night it kept Manchester United in the FA Cup and offered Van Gaal yet another stay of execution as the Dutchman continues to limp on.

It was not exactly convincing, hardly inspiring and yet Van Gaal has got United to Wembley and they are now just 180 minutes from winning a trophy which could keep him in a job.

You can think back to various points of the season and Van Gaal has always got a result when he needed it. Against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Midtjylland and now West Ham.
In pictures - West Ham 1-2 Manchester United:

And just when you think the players may not still be playing for him, you get heroic performances in huge victories.

The most unlikely was from Marouane Fellaini who scored and was a menace throughout with a marauding midfield display as he bullied West Ham.
United keeper David De Gea once again produced incredible saves, his best in the dying stages as finally West Ham produced a late fight back even though it was too little, too late by then.

And the best goal of the night was from 18-year-old Marcus Rashford who, almost everyone else, has been his salvation this season.
Rashford’s opener in the 54th minute was a goal of the highest quality, his run and then precision shot changed the course of the cup tie which had, until then, been rather dull.
It was surprising because West Ham, despite all the fanfare and talk of it being the last cup tie at their famous old ground, looked flat, almost leggy after their recent exploits.

Maybe it was one build-up, one too many cheesy Ray Winstone videos on the big screen talking about it being the end of an era at Upton Park.

Rashford celebrates with his team-mates

We can do without that, thanks very much. West Ham fans do not want fanfare, they just want silverware and, after a season which has promised so much under Slaven Bilic, they may end up disappointed.
West Ham’s top four hopes are fading and they just could not summon up another big performance to knock United out of the cup.
Dimitri Payet was disappointing, Andy Carroll ineffective until they started lumping it at the end and United thoroughly deserved it overall.
They defended well, showed their quality after the restart and completed the job to set up a showdown with Everton.

Cameroon: Accident taking 7 lives.

Seven perish in Cameroon road crash
At least seven bus passengers were killed in a road crash in the littoral Cameroonian town of Njombe-Penja, APA can report, quoting several sources on Wednesday.Tuesday’s tragedy happened when the bus carrying the victims from Bafoussam (West) as it departed Douala (Littoral) ploughed into an approaching lorry laden with goods.

According to eyewitness accounts the crash was caused by a mistimed overtake by one of the vehicles involved in the accident.

A World Bank report issued in 2015 revealed that the mortality rate from road accidents in Cameroon fell by 31 percent between 2011 and 2014, the main causes of such tragedies being human error.
The state of disrepair of highways is also blamed for such deadly crashes.

Cameroon’s Transport ministry said the causes of road tragedies range from human errors (70 percent) to technical faults of vehicles (20 percent) and dilapidated highways (10 percent).

Douala: New Director for Laquintinie Hospital

[click to enlarge] "Right now, I'm so emotional that I cannot even speak so well”. The news has just  came in via a phone called . Reached by telephone, Dr. Louis Richard Njock new director Laquintinie hospital in Douala, meets the CT reporters after serving at the  Edea regional hospital annex (On time), where he still officiated as leader until his appointment yesterday April 12, 2016 at noon by a decree from the Prime Minister. He needs to regain his senses, he said. Besides, his voice reflected his joy. And in the coming hours, he promises, he will answer all the questions of the reporters of CT (Cameroon tribune).

After five years at the head of the Hre as first director appointed in 2011, Professor Richard Louis Njock returns to Douala where he will notably lead the Bonassama District Hospital for two years. Since 2004 he has been the head of the Otorhinolaryngology Service (ORL) of the general hospital in Douala. The specialist, aged 49, is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Yaoundé.

While it does not rule out on the challenges ahead in his new assignment, explaining that he will first have working sessions with its hierarchy, it is clear that the task of Professor Louis Richard Njock  is  a difficult one as per the announcement. If we had to find a primary goal, it would be to restore the image of the hospital Laquintinie, targeted at all the criticism. He replaces Dr. Jean II Dissongo, who spent four years.

What is expected of the new Director includes the implementation of the directives of the Minister of Public Health André Mama Fouda, dated March 31, 2016, relating to the reception, guidance and care of patients.

Cameroon-bound Goods To Be Inspected Before Shipment

Charles Booto à Ngon
Government has signed agreements with two surveillance companies to this effect.
The Prime Ministerial order of July 1, 2015, obliging the checking of goods before shipment to Cameroon is already a step forward. The Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development, Ernerst Gwaboubou, on April 6, 2016, signed agreements with two separate companies to inspect and analyse goods that are destined for Cameroon. The signing ceremony was also watched by the Director General of the Agency for Standards and Quality, ANOR, Charles Booto à Ngon.

The agreements were signed between government and Société Général de Surveillance SA (SGS SA), on the one hand, and with Intertek International Limited, on the other. Going by its terms, the companies will assess goods in compliance with standards and quality before shipment to Cameroon. Government expects the two companies to carry out laboratory identification and analyses for every item. The companies will also quantify and classify goods and their tarrifs. Société Général de Surveillance SA (SGS SA) and Intertek International Limited will hence inspect products, ensuring that they are of good quality and comply with Cameroonian standards.

The putting in place of a platform to evaluate the conformity of goods before shipment into Cameroon, known by its French acronym as PECAE, is government’s decision to create a level ground for doing business, protect the local industry, create a favourable business climate for public and private investors. The end result is to protect users and consumers from imported goods of doubful quality.
The aim is also to offer quality services (standards, certification, metrology, accreditation, evaluation of conformity and training). Government however challenges local industries to respect standards and quality as they seek to become more competitive so as to conquer the local and international market.

This lady as seen on the pictures woke from bed and stretch her hand into her dresses and this what she picked. She got into the streets this morning and the looks were so disgusting that the passers-by could not let her continue her morning parading or should i say cat walking

Is it not amazing what the so called fashion trend is turning into? You probably want to ask me if the woman is mad but does she look like a mad woman to you?. wow. What do you think?

Nicolas N’Koulou wanted by both Tottenham and Leicester.

nkoulu

MARSEILLE centre-half Nicolas N’Koulou is a reported summer target for Leicester and Tottenham.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the Premier League title-chasers are each eyeing N’Koulou as they look to bolster their squads in preperation for European football.

Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes secured their place in the Champions League at the weekend, while second-placed Spurs’ confirmation is edging ever closer.
And a place in Europe’s elite club competition is apparently what N’Koulou is searching for, as well as a solid contract, following Marseille’s troubled campaign.

The Ligue 1 giants have struggled with on and off the field issues and sit 14th in the table as a result.
N’Koulou is being watched across Europe though and Schalke have reportedly made an approach for the defender ahead of Leicester and Tottenham and are willing to pay him around £2.4m per year.
However, the 26-year-old will not make any imminent decisions over his future destination, with Valencia also interested.

Champions League football could swing N’Koulou in the Premier League pair’s favour, and the Cameroon international has good experience to help either side.
N’Koulou joined Marseille in the summer of 2011 from Monaco and has been a consistent part of their team ever since.

Two seasons in the Champions League and two terms in the Europa League with Marseille would make him a valuable addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s team or the Foxes as they get ready to make the big jump.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic transfer to the Premier League:Its a step down claims Silva

PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic warms up before the game

Silva isn't impressed by the league Ibrahimovic is expected to join.

Thiago Silva has warned Zlatan Ibrahimovic he would be taking a “step down” if he moves to the Premier League.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Ibrahimovic is set to be out of contract this summer and is a big-money target for Manchester United, while he has also been offered to Arsenal and Chelsea.

Ibrahimovic will be in Manchester on Wednesday to face City for a place in the Champions League semi-finals, and Silva has added some spice for the second leg by suggesting English football is second rate.

PSG captain Silva said of the Swede: “He is my good friend, but also at 34 he is playing the best football of his career. He is one of the best in the world, he is unique, there is not another player like him.
“Of course I want him to stay at PSG, I cannot imagine us without him.

In pictures — PSG and Man City draw 2-2 in quarter-final's first leg:
Fernandinho celebrates with team mates after scoring the second goal for Manchester City

"I know he has offers from England - and it is a big league - but I don’t think there is a team in England that is at the level of PSG at the moment. For me it would be a step down in quality for him.”
Ibrahimovic has yet to be offered a new deal by PSG, who are one of the clubs - also including United and Bayern Munich - in for Everton’s 22-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku.

But United would be strong favourites to get Ibrahimovic if Jose Mourinho takes over at Old Trafford this summer as the pair have a very strong relationship.

Woman burns down her apartment after learning that her boyfriend was gay.

A New Jersey woman named Lakishette Williams accidentally set fire to her apartment after she found out her boyfriend was gay and was cheating on her with other men. She told police she accidentally set her apartment ablaze while burning love letters from the man.

This happened in December and she was immediately arrested for arson after police found out she started fires in two rooms, but she claims it was a mistake. The 25-year-old mother-of-two said she was “distraught” after she found out her boyfriend's 'friends' were actually his sexual partners and she'd left them in her home on several occasions.

She appeared in court last week for a bail reconsideration hearing where a judge reduced her bail from $50,000 to $35,000

“She was devastated. She didn’t intentionally set the fires; she was just burning love letters from her boyfriend." said her attorney Caroline Davis.
