Cameroonian and Chinese holders of diplomatic or service passports will no longer require visas to enter either country. The agreement to this effect was signed yesterday July 7, 2016 in Yaounde between the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, on behalf of the government of the Republic of Cameroon and the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Wei Wenhua, for the People’s Republic of China. The agreement entails the reciprocal suppression of short-stay visas for nationals of both countries who are holders of diplomatic or service passports.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in the Ministry of External Relations, Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella noted that Cameroon and China enjoy excellent friendly and bilateral ties evidenced by the recent State visits of President Paul Biya to China and a similar visit of the then Chinese Head of State, Hu Jintao to Cameroon. The agreement, Minister Mbella Mbella added, comes to consolidate the relations between both countries and the confidence of their State institutions. He stated that the agreement does not in any way favour illegal emigration between the two countries but rather facilitates the movement of officials of their respective administration.
According to Ambassador Wei Wenhua, the agreement is part of the the implementation of the recommendations of the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs during his visit to Cameroon in January 2015. The accord, the Ambassador added, will foster the 45- year- old Sino-Cameroon friendly and bilateral ties. China, Ambassador Wenhua stated, is Cameroon’s first commercial partner, while Cameroon is the second beneficiary in Africa of Chinese investments.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, as well as senior officials of the Chinese Embassy in Yaounde, amongst others.

An Electricity company known as the Nachtigal Hydro power Company has been created in Cameroon.
An agreement to concretize the existence of this company was signed yesterday 7th July 2016 in Yaounde between France and Cameroon and the International Finance Corporation.
The Minister of Water Resource and Energy Basile Atangana Kouna signed on behalf of Cameroon while Jean-François Arsenault represented the French Government.
The Nachtigal Hydro-Power Company is expected to provide one third of Cameroon’s Energy by 2020, and to supply power to the aluminum plan in Edea.
The company will in the Months ahead complete the construction of 420 mega watts power dam on the river Sanaga. It is estimated to cover a distance of 40 miles transmission line.
According to the agreement, the French Government will have a 40% share of the company and the Electricite de France will exploit the dam for a period of 35yrs while Cameroon on the other hand will have 30% share.
30% of the project will be funded the International Finance Corporation.

Donald Trump blasted the media calling them a bunch of "liars" and "bad people" and slammed the press for negatively reporting his praise of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during an event in North Carolina the night before.

Paralympic gold medalist Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to six years in jail for murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day three years ago.
Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down the sentence, which was less than half of the recommended minimum 15-year jail term for murder, at the South African High Court on Wednesday as June and Barry Steenkamp, Reeva’s parents, watched from the public gallery. Pistorius, 29, showed little reaction as the judge read her decision and hugged his family afterward.
“A long-term of imprisonment will not serve justice in this matter,” she said. “The accused has already served 12 months, he is a first offender and he is not likely to re-offend.” Masipa called Pistorius “a fallen hero” and “a good candidate for rehabilitation.”
Pistorius, who was taken to Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria, the capital, will have to serve at least three years before parole is considered, Marius du Toit, a criminal-defense lawyer at Du Toit Attorneys, said by phone.
“She definitely erred on the side of caution with a lenient sentence,” he said of Masipa.
Pistorius’s lawyers won’t appeal the sentence, Andrew Fawcett, who’s on his legal team, told reporters after the hearing.
Masipa originally convicted Pistorius of manslaughter and gave him a five-year sentence. In December, the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that he was guilty of murder, citing “errors of law” in the first verdict. The Constitutional Court decided on March 3 that Pistorius couldn’t appeal the murder conviction.
Factors of mitigation outweighed those of aggravation, and Pistorius had shown remorse for the killing, Masipa said.
“I find that there are compelling and exceptional circumstances to deviate from the prescribed sentence of 15 years,” she said.
Known as the Blade Runner because of his J-shaped prosthetic blades, Pistorius was granted 10,000-rand ($670) bail and ordered to remain under house arrest. He’s been serving part of his previous sentence for culpable homicide at his uncle’s home.
Pistorius won six Paralympic gold medals and was the first double-amputee runner to compete at the Olympic Games. He was born without fibula in both legs, which were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old.

Fourteen Cameroonian players have been found guilty of age-fraud and subsequently suspended by their federation according to reports coming out of Cameroon today.
The Fédération Camerounaise de Football uncovered that players had been lying about their age in an effort to play at the under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Madagascar next year.
Age cheating is commonplace among African nations where it is often difficult to verify a player’s age, but the introduction of MRI testing has curtailed much of the dishonesty that has taken place in the past.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives examiners information about the structures of the body and was implemented by FIFA prior to the under-17 World Cup in 2009.
A total of 40 young players were subject to MRI testing on June 30 and July 1 in Yaounde with more than a third discovered to have been age-cheating.
“Fourteen players have just been found to be adjusting their ages by an MRI test,” reported Cameroon Radio television (CRTV).
Cameroon has a well documented history of age-cheating with former international Tobie Mimboe having used a number of different documents over the course of his career.

Mr. Minister, What is the importance of this agreement between Cameroon-Italy on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic or service passport?
The importance is that from now on, when the bill will be ratified by the Head of State, Cameroonians will go very easily to Italy based on the fact that we have signed this agreement.
Why is the agreement limited only to holders of diplomatic and service passports?
These are the rules in all the countries. You cannot give free visa to all citizens firstly because of security reasons. The embassies have to make sure that those who are travelling to their country are people who cannot cause any problem. Secondly, because it is a matter of courtesy in all the countries in the international community, people who are entitled to have diplomatic passports or service passports are treated with due respect.
Are there no possible disadvantages to free visa requirement?
No. Except if the person is what we call undesirable. He may be refused the visa but apart from that if you have not been noted as being a nuisance to any country, the visa can be given very easily and free.
How will this visa free agreement enhance commercial ties between Cameroon and Italy when it is limited to a particular class of citizens?
You should know that the service passport has been extended to various categories of citizens in our country. Many people do not know that even those who are business people according to the laws and regulations are entitled to service passports. So, it’s a great number of persons who will be travelling either for business, commercial or even for holidays. You can also travel for a visit or for tourism. All these conditions are catered for in the agreement.
