Neglect breaks down in tears in newly released debut video,'Fool 4 U' (+video +audio +photo)

Earlier this year, the Aboloshi King was declared wanted (click and read more). After a successful release and promo of his song and hit single Aboloshi (click and listen), he took on a Ghana and Vietnam tour to honor invitations aimed at exploiting his talent on new horizons. His fans grew weary with anticipation during that long period of silence on his part.

Neglect just resurfaced from his hiding place. Just like I assumed, the super talented and versatile artist was relentlessly working on new releases underground. His works under the KBhood Muzic (follow and like page) label cannot be over emphasized, just off the hook.

Neglect aka Buri Wan Wa Shey Joe made a dual release of his two singles. He made available online his debut video for his single Fool 4 U in which he expresses a lot of emotional hurt over a painful relationship. This video stars people like Alenne Menget, Tutu Biaka, Sarah Musango and Brenda Dery; directed by the remarkable Shamak Almaradji. It is a breath taking work of arts in its entirety. Did I say it was a dual release today for Neglect? Yes for sure it was. He also released  "Wir Nso" another single in which he features Dj Karl and Roqzen. This song is an expression of the cultural  identity and the love they have for their clan. This song is another redefinition of Hip hop. Just like it always happens at Kbhood under the distinguished production of Dj Karl, this one is no different.

5 things that will shock you about National Day Celebration 2016

flag cameroon

Karawa’s Diary made a brief analysis of this year’s national day celebration. We wanted to focus our attention on the very weird happenings of today both on social media and other media such as the TV. The results were crazy and worth talking about so we had to let you know and know your opinion.

Karawa’s Diary had to put out the top 5 shocking happenings today. These happenings are not in any order per say but you will definitely agree with me that they are shocking (shocking? Maybe because it was not expected to happen that way).

1.CRTV Goes Gaga: Cameroon Radio and Television is the national TV station of Cameroon that is entrusted with relaying the images from the nation’s capital as concerns the happenings of the National Day celebration. What was weird today about their broadcasting? What was really shocking about CRTV was the fact that the journalists today went all crazy talking on each other as if everyone wanted to be heard. Really? On national TV?. It kept me wondering what they were fighting for. Can everyone not have his/her talking time? To add Soar to injury, Images kept disconnecting (not as if this is strange though). See the social media reactions.
2. National Band’s Songs:  During the match pass demonstration, there is always the presence of the National Band in Yaounde that takes care of the songs that are used for matching. You know what was amazing about the Band today? They played Mr. Leo’s On Va Gere. As shocking as it sounds, it was amazing to know that the National Band could consider playing the song of this young Buea based artists who is on hills to the very top. It only says that the music industry is beginning to take over.Yes; social media definitely had their own say. See on the tweets below.

3. The President’s Car: If this article was in order of merits, this point will top the list. The president’s vehicle broke down today at the 20 May celebration in Yaounde. This was not only shocking but insane. How could this happen. Read more and see pics here about this
This twitter reaction got me laughing

4. Nigerian Soldiers: So, just because we are fighting Boko haram together means they can join us in celebrating this day that is so ours right? Ha-ha, am just kidding. It was shocking though to have Nigerian soldiers match amidst Cameroonian soldiers to celebrate today. Someone twitted on this too.
5.20 May Twitter Trend: This will amaze you but it’s true. Did you know that the hash tag #20Mai2016 was the top trend on twitter today? This means that for the first time our national day celebration calls world attention with the help of social media. It also means that several Cameroonians both in and out of the Country are getting so technologically inclined to have been twitting about this all the way. Apart from this celebration being the top trend, we also had the hash tag #CRTV and Paul Biya trending. Yes, it was shocking but amazing.

I guess you enjoyed our analysis. Let Karawa’s Diary know what you think while we leave you with the song On Va Gere by Mr. Leo to enjoy.

How music and fashion can grow each other.

Fluri Boyz in Sabio Lux wear (Rich B in red Jay Milly in blue)
The Cameroon Entertainment Industry has been on a gradual but sure growth. Going down memory lane, 6years ago, growth in every sector of the industry was so farfetched. Back then, the segmentation in the industry was so pronounce as one could find the fashion industry completely not related in any way to the music industry.  However, the time factor has played an important role as this segmentation is closing up into one whole body.

Rich B
Let us take a look at the Fluri Boyz (click and like their page on facebook). This crew of two has been so amazingly involved in music and fashion.  If I said they didn’t catch my attention, I will be bluffing. Ok, enough with the beating around lets ball.
The Fluri Boyz is a crew of two, Jay Milly and Rich B; both graduates from the University of Buea. These two have been together for longer than Obama has been president of the USA. You know the huddles that come with managing a crew right? Yes, you might want to ask P Square.

Despite the huddles, they have soared above all odds and they still balling together. From their hit singles like Thursday Nyte, Hollam and Shale it’s evident they are a talent worth hailing. They got a brief deal with Red eye entertainment in the past years of their singing career that was not so lucrative for the time. However, their talent was what STM record craved for and could only but give them a record deal. They are presently signed under the renowned record Label STM Records, one of the biggest labels Cameroon has.
Jay Milly chilling out in Sabio Lux
Fluri Boyz are the ambassadors for the clothing line Sabio Lux which is run by a couple of young Cameroonians. It is a prestigious clothing line that blends the Fabrics of the Western world with that of Africa. ‘Sabio’ is a Spanish word for wisdom or sense of good judgment. In short, Sabio Lux is the Luxury Fashion brand that depicts wisdom in your fashion sense.  This Brand’s aim is to urbanize the African Fabric to facilitate its consumption at home, as well as its consumption abroad in particular. Owing to the fact that the fashion sector in the entertainment industry is still lagging behind, this young entrepreneurs and fashionistars dream of taking the fashion industry into the global competition. This dream explains why the music industry has to work together with Fashion to make it a dream come true.
Fluri BoyZ perfoming in Sabio Lux designs at the 10th edition of the industry night
Having the Fluri Boyz run as ambassadors for this clothing line, is evident that the entertainment industry can work together from every sector to promote the whole body. This is a giant step that is worth commending. Kudios to them for such an endorsement!!!

The Fluri Boyz are presently low key working on their very first album to be released under STM Record this year and I bet they never disappoint.

National Day: President's vehicle breaks down at National Day celebration.

So in the middle of the reunification day celebration, the president's vehicle broke down and was quickly replaced with a white one. The amazing part is how it was aired on national TV showing how some military members were busy pushing the vehicle out of the way. I can only but wonder the fate of the mechanic of that vehicle after the ceremony.

Why should this happen? Funny though.

CNN:First missing Chibok girl found after 2 years as Boko Haram prisoner [+video]

(CNN ) When Amina Ali Nkeki was kidnapped by the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram more than two years ago, she was a mere schoolgirl.

On Tuesday night, she apparently wandered out of a forest, asking for help, accompanied by a baby and a man who claimed to be her husband, according to witnesses.
The man is being investigated by Nigeria’s joint intelligence center, according to a military statement.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescued of one out of the 219 Girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok, who were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescued of one out of the 219 Girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok, who were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.
Amina Ali is the first of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram to be freed after the two years in captivity, Nigerian military officials say.

Military officials and locals gave different accounts of how she was liberated. Nigeria’s army said she was rescued by army troops, but a witness told CNN the girl wandered out of the Sambisa Forest in the northeast of the country along with her child and a man.

The Sambisa Forest, believed to be the terrorist group’s stronghold, has long been the suspected location of the girls. As many as 276 of them were kidnapped at gunpoint from their boarding school in Chibok in Borno, northeast Nigeria, on April 14, 2014.

At least 57 girls were able to escape soon after their abduction, but more than 200 of them remain missing.

Witness: She wandered out

The witness, Aboku Gaji, told CNN he was participating in a nightly patrol on the edge of the Sambisa Forest with the Civilian Joint Task Force, a vigilante group set up to help fight Boko Haram, when the girl and some companions wandered out around 7 p.m.

[ click to enlarge] Amina was rescued along with her baby (conceived in captivity) and a suspected Boko Haram member, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be her husband.
Amina was rescued along with her baby (conceived in captivity) and a suspected Boko Haram member, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be her husband.
He said her name was Amina Ali Nkeki, and he recognized her as one of the missing schoolgirls, although she looked different and was in poor physical condition, as were the baby and man with her.
“Their bodies didn’t look good,” Gaji said. “They had had no bath and were in a dirty condition.”
The young woman was part of a group asking for help, including a man who identified himself as her husband and the father of her baby, Gaji said.
The man said he had been kidnapped by Boko Haram from the town of Mubi, taken to Sambisa Forest and married to Nkeki.

Gaji and his commander took the girl to her house, in the settlement of Mbalala, where she was reunited with her mother, Binta Ali, Gaji said.

Army: We rescued her

The Nigerian government and army disputed the account, saying she was rescued by government troops that were working with the civilian force.Operations to find the missing girls have intensified recently with a deep push into Sambisa Forest, a military spokesman told CNN’s Nima Elbagir.

“Troops of 25 Brigade Damboa in conjunction with Civilian JTF deployed in one of the blocking positions at Baale, near Damboa rescued one Miss Amina Ali and a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be her husband,” according to a military statement.
She was nursing a 4-month-old girl the military said was named Safiya.

Manasseh Allan, a Chibok youth leader who also confirmed the girl’s rescue, said she was brought in clutching the baby she gave birth to in the hands of Boko Haram militants.
The army said Hayatu is being treated well and in line with the “rules of engagement regarding insurgents who voluntarily surrender to the military.”

After an exam by air force medics the girl and her baby were handed over to the governor of Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state, officials said.

She may be taken to Abuja on Thursday with her parents to meet the President, according to an army statement.
A distant relative of the Amina Ali, Yakubu Nkeki, said his wife had spoken to the mother of the young woman and confirmed that they had been reunited.

“It’s a joyful time for me,” said Nkeki, who is the father of another of the abducted girls. He said the rescued girl would be taken to the state capital, Maiduguri, on Thursday.
The military confirmed in a statement that “the suspected Boko Haram terrorist and the nursing mother have been taken to Maiduguri for further medical attention and screening.”

‘Bring back our girls’

The girls’ kidnapping sparked global outrage, with Michelle Obama, Malala Yousafzai and a slew of other high-profile figures lending their weight to the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.

But Nigeria’s government has proven powerless to recover the girls, most of whom were Christian, and are believed to have been forced by their captors to convert to Islam.

Last month, CNN obtained a video of some of the missing Chibok girls that had been sent to negotiators by their captors as “proof of life,” and showed it to some of the girls’ mothers, who had not been shown the footage by officials.

Nigeria’s missing girls: A glimpse of the stolen

Boko Haram, based mainly in Nigeria’s northern states but responsible also for attacks in neighboring countries, is seeking to implement sharia law. According to a report released in November, the Global Terrorism Index, Boko Haram was the world’s deadliest terrorist group in 2014, responsible for 6,644 deaths, an increase of 317% from the previous year.
Sambisa stronghold

Two years ago, when CNN first visited Chibok after the mass abduction, parents described how they had followed their daughters’ trail to the edge of the Sambisa Forest, which had been overrun by the Islamist insurgents several years earlier.

But with danger lurking amid the dense vegetation — an ideal hiding place for the militants and their improvised explosive devices — the parents were unable to go further.
Since then, Nigerian soldiers have infiltrated the forest and driven the militants from some of their territory.
But the group still holds land in the heart of the forest.

Nkeki Mutah, the vice chairman of the Chibok association of Abuja, told CNN that urgent action was needed to recover the girls.
“It is now left for the government to act as quickly as possible and we are calling on international leaders to act.”

Opening speech by H.E. Paul at the International Economic Conference in Yaounde

International economic conference of Yaounde - Paul Biya
Opening speech by H.E. Paul BIYA, President of the Republic of Cameroon at the International Economic Conference of Yaounde organised on the theme “Investing in Cameroon: Land of Attractiveness” on 17th May 2016

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, I would like to express my profound gratitude to all the personalities from the world of politics, business and finance gathered here today. I wish to thank you for accepting our invitation.

Cameroon highly appreciates your presence at this conference. To us, this clearly marks your interest in the modernization of our economy and improvement of the living conditions of our people.
Permit me now to recall the objective, or rather, objectives of today’s conference.

Its purpose is firstly, to review the key components of Cameroon’s economy; to determine the private sector’s potential contribution to its expansion; and thereafter, assess the country’s real opportunities that would ensure its integration into the global economy, in a more judicious and helpful manner.

The findings of this review will be highly instrumental in implementing our economic policy. They could, perhaps, be useful to other African countries facing a situation similar to ours.

Secondly, and this will certainly mark the highpoint of our conference, we will facilitate meetings between public and private project initiators alike, and foreign as well as local investors. To borrow from economic lingo, this conference affords an excellent opportunity to create a veritable “investment market” right here.

It is not my place here to give you an overview of Cameroon’s economy. Certainly, that will be done during the roundtable devoted to the macro-economic situation and growth prospects.

For my part, I would rather highlight some salient facts of a general nature in a way that would reveal our innermost views as well as our genuine aspirations for lasting prosperity in the current geostrategic context.

I will start off with a few words about our continent:
The continent that in the sixties was considered “doomed” has become, according to some observers, a “continent of the future”…

Of course, I am sincerely delighted, but at the same time, I must admit that I remain rather cautious about the overly optimistic and unqualified forecasts made by some people.
They highlight the growth rates ranging across countries from 5% to 10% over the years.

However, we must recall that growth is not an end in itself. Moreover, it has been acknowledged, even by the most prominent international economic institutions, that we must go beyond the quantitative measurement of growth rate, to seek a tangible improvement in people’s living conditions.
What matters here is, first of all, our ability to actually put people at the centre of our economic endeavours.

Serving the human person and his overall well-being should constitute the be-all and end-all of our investment choices, and our priorities for wealth creation.
Similarly, it is only through sustainable management of global resources that we can ensure true prosperity.

This is a global obligation, but it particularly concerns Africa, considering that it has to catch up and also the numerous inequities of the global context often affecting the continent, which lacks the real wherewithal to defend itself.

Obviously, its marginal position spared it from the full impact of the shocks of the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008. Nonetheless, the continent has suffered its delayed effects such as the collapse of oil and other commodity prices, the slowdown in investment, etc.

Admittedly, Africa is gradually entering globalization. One could even envisage that the continent’s role would be increasingly prominent in the global economy as the years go by.

Its high population growth and expanding middle class create conditions conducive to market attractiveness in terms of mass consumption and infrastructure development.

The youthfulness and dynamism of its population are reasons for optimism. The African youth, in particular, are a major asset for the continent. They should be at the forefront of technology to ensure that Africa hooks up to an economy where innovation is, now more than ever before, a decisive factor of competitiveness.

To this should be added the abundant and diverse natural resources, which progressively should be processed locally in order to be more beneficial to our economies.

Undoubtedly, all these features will make Africa a partner that is constantly coveted by the most advanced countries in their quest for resources to reboot their economies.

In a world marked by ever-growing economic and social interdependence, the challenge is to develop genuine areas of shared prosperity. This involves forging new types of economic and socio-political relations based on the idea of mutual benefit between partners.

In this type of relationship, some contribute their financing capability and their technology, while others offer unique opportunities to be seized, and rare resources to be tapped, all in a fair and equitable exchange.

Such is the new type of relationship that we should seek in economic partnership agreements with the European Union, for instance, and also with any other partners…

The private sector should play a key role in such a set up. Africa, where the State often occupies a prominent position in the economy, will need to foster business development.

Such is what Cameroon is seeking. It will pursue efforts in that direction to lend the best possible support to domestic and foreign investments.
Here too, it is important to promote the establishment of true win-win partnerships between local businesses and major international firms.

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As you are aware, Cameroon’s objective is to become an emerging country by 2035. This ambition, I believe, is largely shared by our people who have transformed it into a national cause. All our public policies and, particularly our public finance management are geared towards achieving this objective.

Our expansionary budget is based on a fiscal policy which prioritizes expenditure quality. Our public debt, contained at around 25 % of GDP, is closely monitored. It must remain constantly at a sustainable level, while providing us with productive financing resources.

We are optimistic that the consolidation of these conditions will endear us even more to investors.
Moreover, I am fond of saying that Cameroon, Africa in miniature, is not coming empty-handed to this give-and-take forum. Indeed, it has abundant assets, hence its attractiveness:

?The most populated country in the CEMAC zone sharing a more than 1 500 km-long border with Nigeria, Africa’s leading economy, Cameroon stands out thanks to its strategic position at the crossroads between West and Central Africa and at the intersection between the ECOWAS and CEMAC zones.
? Its Atlantic coastline, its rail network, its three international airports and 50 000 km of road all of which are constantly developing foster its integration into regional and global trade.

? It abounds with natural resources and its varied soils, climates and natural environments are suitable for agriculture.

? With Africa’s second hydro-electric potential and huge natural gas reserves, Cameroon has embarked on varied and large-scale energy infrastructure construction. The phased commissioning of such infrastructure is opening up bright prospects for the availability of sustainable, adequate and permanent energy.

? Additionally, the country is endowed with an expanding and diversified industrial fabric with many small and medium size enterprises and industries (SMEs/SMIs) ready to enter into subcontracting and co-contracting agreements.

? There is abundant, young and qualified labour force for a country with one of the highest school enrolment rates in sub-Saharan Africa.

? Above all, Cameroon is determined to encourage private investment. An appropriate legal framework has been put in place to that end.

Based on the law on investment incentives, the framework will enable the development of priority high-impact sectors which are:
– agribusiness;
– transport infrastructure;
– energy;
– low-cost housing and urban development;
– the extractive industry; and
new technologies.
All these measures bear sufficient testimony to Cameroon’s strong determination to attract more and more productive investments on its soil so as to accelerate economic growth and prosperity for its people.

Cameroon is a haven of peace, respecting the rule of law and a country of liberty. Its institutions are stable, functional and harmonious. They are capable of adapting to societal trends to ensure social peace, the security of persons and property and the country’s political stability at all times.
In today’s world, and particularly in Africa, this, we believe, is a major asset for investors.

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Your presence here expresses your determination to contribute towards fulfilling our country’s legitimate aspirations.

Cameroon will bear that in mind.

I wish everyone fruitful discussions for mutually beneficial partnerships, and of course, I wish our numerous visitors, a pleasant stay in Cameroon.
Thank you

Eto'o responses to his allerged transfer rumours to the African league, Morocco

samuel eto'o

Former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has commented on rumours linking him with a shock move to one of Africa’s biggest clubs.

The former Cameroon international, who was in great form for Turkish side Antalyaspor this season, has now been linked with a move to continental giants Wydad Casablanca, Morocco’s most succesful team with 13 league titles to their name.

However, the 35-year-old has rubbished these rumours, via his Facebook page, with the following statement:
“Several media have communicated about a potential transfer to Wydad Casablanca lately.
“Despite my great love for Morocco in particular and Africa in general, that information is not accurate.
“I wish you an excellent Sunday, and once again watch out for false information!”

Eto’o scored 20 goals and assisted a further six strikes in 31 league games for Antalyaspor this season, helping his promoted side to climb to ninth place.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the African legend will host a charity game in Turkey on 16 July.
He has reportedly invited stars such Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Diego Maradona, Eden Hazard, Andres Iniesta and Didier Drogba to be part of his dream team, which will face a Turkish selection.

"Nude selfies till I die" Kim K declares as she accepts Break The Internet Award

KIM K
Kim Kardashian-West on monday accepted the Break the Internet Award at the 2016 Webby's for her "unparalleled success online, undeniable talent and natural ability to use the Internet to create buzz, engage with fans and communities, and get the world to pay attention."

In her acceptance speech, the 35 year old reality star whose nude selfie caused a stir earlier this year, assured her fans that they haven't see the last of her naked body.

"Nude selfies till I die," Kim proclaimed after accepting the award.
A post on Webby Awards official website reads:
"The Webby Awards are excited to honor Kim Kardashian West with the inaugural Webby Break The Internet Award for her unparalleled success online. It would be difficult to underestimate the importance of Kim Kardashian West’s impact on the Internet. As the leading celebrity in terms of her online presence and understanding of how to connect with a global audience via social media, apps and online video, Kim has set the standard incredibly high. She has shaped our understanding of how someone or something can draw the popular attention of Internet users everywhere. To the degree that she’s created a new type of celebrity — publicizing her life to the benefit of herself and her family — is due to the Internet.
Kim’s preternatural sense of being in the public eye, sees her appearing at seemingly every major cultural moment, most notably, her support of Caitlyn Jenner’s sex change. Likewise, with her suite of apps including the latest, Kimoji, which skyrocketed to the top of the most-downloaded list, Kim has expanded her celebrity into new territories and, safe to say, to a high degree of success as well. For breaking the Internet and putting it back together in her likeness, it is our privilege to honor Kim Kardashian West with the first-ever Webby Break the Internet Award."

Cameroon: A cream of business gurus across the globe meeting in Yaounde. (images)

Investir au CameroonA cream of business gurus from across the globe are meeting in Yaounde from today at the behest of President Paul Biya to see where best to invest their money.

After several visits abroad like Britain and America and the dispatch of emissaries to market the Cameroon’s economic opportunities to investors, President Paul Biya has convened a high-profile meeting of Chief Executive Officers, CEOs, in Yaounde. The aim is to let them see firsthand and discuss avenues for boosting the economy through investments.

 President Paul Biya
The meeting, which opens today 17 May 2016, ends tomorrow. It offers a unique opportunity for government officials to tell the President’s guests where they can put their finances and be sure of making profits while providing employment to the many young graduates who now flood the job market each year.
Meeting on the theme, “Investing in Cameroon, Land of Attractiveness,” high-profile guests and government officials will have to look at the growth prospects of the country, analyse the contribution of the private sector and give their opinion on how best to move forward. Coming six years after the Yaounde 21 International
 investi rau cameroon
Conference which the Head of State convened to mark 50 years of the Unitary State of Cameroon, the current event is obviously another step towards offering concrete meaning to the economic commitments taken by Mr Biya to make his present tenure of office one of economic growth for Cameroon.
It is probably in this light that the business magnets will be delving into topics like the macroeconomic situation in Cameroon, prospects for growth; the role of the private sector in the economic development of Africa; the role of the private sector in the economic development of Cameroon; the financial attractiveness of Cameroon; and the digital economy in relation to growth.

Apart from the business-to-business (B to B) forum that will hold on the last day of the gathering, there are also plans for concrete resolutions to be reached on crucial domains like energy, transport and urban development, agriculture and the Information and Communications Technologies. Such an outcome will equally be an occasion to boost the business climate in Cameroon that has been so challenging for some years now.
Tony ElumeluAddressing French employers at the Cameroon-France Economic Forum in Paris on 31 January 2013, President Paul Biya pointed out that “I urge you to seize today’s opportunities of participating in developing tomorrow’s Cameroon.” The initiative has continued with successive holding of the Cameroon Business Forum in the economic hub of the country, Douala, chaired by the Prime Minister, Head of Government. The Yaounde International Conference is obviously another endeavour to foster the same agenda.

With keynote speakers like; Manuel Barroso, Chung Un-Chan, Donald Kaberuka, Pascal Lamy, Aliko Dangote, Paul Fokam Kammogne, Arthur Zang, as well as major business managers as Daniel Cohen, Pascal Lamy, Acha Leke, Mohamed El Kettani, Nino Njopkou and Tony Elumelu, attending the conference, the Head of State definitely wants to ensure that the building blocks of an emergent Cameroon by 2035 are well in place.

The other unquestionable factor which the country counts on is its strategic position not just as “Africa in miniature,” but also as a country located in a covetous site in the Central African Sub-region with a potential market of nearly 350 million inhabitants. This takes into consideration neighboring countries like the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.

Added to this is the natural and human resources that exist in the country. The close to 500 delegates who include economic operators, government officials and representatives of international development institutions as well as business leaders and financiers, are certainly going to provide concrete solutions to the country’s growth ambitions.

BBC:The Cameroonian albino who confronted a witch-doctor.

Stephane Ebongue..confronted the witch doctor
Stephane Ebongue
I was so caught up in this amazing documented story that I had to share with you KD readers.

Stephane Ebongue fled Cameroon because of the colour of his skin – his albinism made him a target for those who believe such people have special powers. Years later he returned home to confront a witchdoctor, and to question him about the practice of using human body parts in “magic” potions.

WATCH VIDEO TRAILER

Stephane Ebongue stands nervously at the edge of a forest trail, dressed in a suit and carrying a briefcase. His dark sunglasses are a necessity because he has albinism, but they also hide his nervousness. “My heart is beating fast. I have never come to a place like this before,” he says.

This is the day he hopes to find answers he has spent years searching for. The trail leads to a witchdoctor who trades in albino potions.

“I would like to find out why albinos keep getting killed. Maybe the secret lies at the end of this path,” he says.
Ebongue is a journalist, a rational man who deals in facts. He does not believe in magic, yet he is deeply unsettled about this meeting.

Across Africa, in countries such as Tanzania, Malawi and Ebongue’s own country, Cameroon, there is a belief that people with albinism bring luck or have magical powers. This has devastating consequences for those with the condition.

“It is believed that parts of an albino, such as their heart, hair or fingernails, are important to make magical potions – for instance to fertilise the soil, to become invincible, to win political elections or a football match,” says Ebongue.
“This is why albinos are killed and mutilated for the parts of their body.”

According to a recent UN report, such body parts can fetch prices from $2,000 for a limb to $75,000 for a “complete set” – a whole body.
Ebongue was 15 when his older brother, Maurice, who also had albinism, went missing 30 years ago.
“He went out one morning and did not come back,” says Ebongue.

Days later the family found the 18-year-old’s body in some bushes. He had been mutilated. “His stomach was opened – I don’t know what was missing inside,” says Ebongue.

Ebongue’s parents tried to give their two sons with albinism a normal childhood – they treated them the same way as their other children – so it wasn’t until he first went to school that he realised he was different. His classmates would ask him, “Why is it that you are white and we are black?”

“They were coming to touch my skin thinking that I had put talcum powder on there,” he says.
At first he got into fights at school but his parents, both teachers, knew what to do.
“They understood the problem and pushed me to study harder.
“My revenge was that I was always the first in my class.”

The trouble was that like most people with albinism, Ebongue had very poor sight, which made it difficult for him to read small print or see the blackboard, even when he sat at the front of the class.
“During official exams there were many times where I had to hand in a blank sheet of paper,” he says. “Not because I wasn’t up to the task, but because the script was written so small that I could not read it. I had to give back a blank sheet of paper and go out crying.”

He swore to himself that he would one day create a library where visually impaired people like himself would be able to read with ease.

Ebongue went to study journalism and English literature at university, where he was the only student with albinism out of 10,000. His uniqueness made him a point of reference in the local community. “People would say, ‘Where the house of the albino is, meet me there,'” he says.
By 2007, at the age of 37, he was married and working as a journalist in Buea, in the shadow of Mount Cameroon, one of Africa’s most active volcanoes.
It was the volcano that caused a huge crisis in Ebongue’s life.

“It is believed that when there is an eruption it means Epasamoto, the god of the mountain, is angry,” says Ebongue. “To calm him down they need the blood of an albino.”

When the volcano had erupted in 1999, lava flowed down the side of the mountain, stopping just short of Buea. There were no casualties, but the traditional doctors claimed that the town had been spared only because albinos had been sacrificed.

In 2007 there were fears of a new eruption and people were doing “everything possible” to stop it. At times like this, when what Ebongue calls a “general psychosis” takes hold, people with albinism go into hiding.
Fearing for his life, Ebongue decided to go abroad. His wife and three children, none of whom had the condition, were safe – they could follow at a later date, he thought.

He found a captain willing to smuggle him on board a ship carrying timber to Italy, and spent 33 days hidden in the dark hold.
“I was asking myself many questions without answers, so it was mentally and psychologically very difficult,” he says.
“I was suffering. I had left my wife and my children, I had left my job, I had left my country, I had left my friends.”

Soon after arriving in Genoa, Ebongue was granted refugee status on humanitarian grounds.
Living in Italy was liberating. For once, his colour was an advantage – other Cameroonians would regularly be stopped by the police, whereas he was not.
“When I lived in Africa I had three enemies: the sun, the people’s disgust and the fear,” he says.
“Here, I don’t have such problems. I feel freer here, I feel free to move, I’m not ashamed.”

In his new home, Ebongue found he was provided with specialist sun cream as well as a magnifier, to help him read. He had never seen anything like it before – and when he saw what it could do, he burst into tears. Before it would take him two months to read a novel. With the magnifier he read 10 in a month. “I was trying to make up for lost time,” he says.

The experience made him even more determined to build a specialist library in Cameroon.
Ebongue soon learned Italian and settled in Turin, where he taught the language to new arrivals, and made a new friend in local journalist Fabio Lepore.

The two men bonded because Lepore, too, has a visual impairment. His is caused by macular degeneration – Stargardt disease – which means he has 2/20 vision in both eyes. “I was lucky because I started to lose my sight at the age of 16, so I could learn how to do without,” says Lepore. “I can’t drive a car – but I can paraglide.”

They began working on a documentary about Ebongue, called Jolibeau’s Travels – Jolibeau is the nickname he is known by at home in Cameroon.

And this is why, five years later, Ebongue was standing by the side of a road in Cameroon, about to meet a witchdoctor, and struggling to keep control of his emotions.

“I was there as a journalist,” he says. “I wanted to meet somebody who could explain to me the deep roots of those beliefs, and I thought a native doctor could do that.”

At the same time, he knew that many people with albinism – among them his own brother – had died at the hands of people like the man he was about to meet.

After a 20-minute walk through the forest, the documentary footage shows Ebongue and Lepore arriving at a clearing in the forest, where some washing hangs on a line next to a rudimentary wooden hut.

The witchdoctor comes out to meet them, wearing an orange tie-dye shirt and shorts. He shakes hands with them all, giving Ebongue a strange look.

Cameroon:Ghastly Accident at Bambili claims numerous lives. It is an eye saw. (WARNING ON SENSITIVE IMAGES)

Later at Midday this Afternoon a truck carrying sand was descending the hill from Bambilli into three corners. Unfortunately the breaks of the truck failed  and it ran down the hill into a brasseries vehicle ascending the hill and an it immediately triggered further disaster. Though the stories still remained unconfirmed, it has been rumored that about 16  lives have been lost to this ghastly accident so far

As you can see from the pictures below, the whole scene was an eye saw and a mad disaster.
 After talking to an eye witness, she said;

" Fatal Accident in Bambili this Morning: about 15 dead bodies counted already and more bodies still being dug out. From what I am told, A truck carrying gravel was coming down towards 3 Corners and its brakes failed. Same time, a Brasseries truck was driving upwards. The Lorry with failed brakes hit the Brasseries truck and both lost control. The Brasseries lorry then hit another car and an Okada(motor bike) and all three just crushed call box operators, hawkers sitting by the road side selling and anyone who was on that side of the street.

Some f them got burried under the gravel from the truck and are still being dug out....some people coming out in body parts. I just called my sister who passed by that spot 10minutes before the accident. "Anyman call e family Members in Bambili oooh" as she continued in pidgin asking on individuals to call their relatives in bambili. My sister said she told some 2 kids sitting there selling pears to leave that place and go to school because they were blocking the entrance from the road. 10 mins later she comes out and saw their trays and suspects they are under the gravel......dead!!! #HeartBreak. LE PAYS VA MAL!!!!"

May their souls rest in peace.
