CAMEROON'S NATIONAL TEAM NEW CALL UP

Anatole Abang

Even at the tender age of 19 and with less than 500 minutes in league play to his name, Anatole Abang is nonetheless taking a massive step towards becoming an international soccer player.
Abang has received a call-up to Cameroon’ national team.
The call-up was a bit of a surprise as Abang has only 19 appearances, three starts and one goal to his MLS career so far.
“All the indications are that he is going to the national team for the first time, we are excited for him,” Red Bulls head coach Marsch said after training.
“It’s a great opportunity, they want to start to get him into their program which is a smart thing to do. He’s got a lot of confidence, we are all proud of him and we believe in him. It will be a great opportunity.”
Abang was called in for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on March 26
Two years ago, Ambroise Oyongo in his only year with the Red Bulls, got called up to Cameroon’s national team after a series of starts in the summer for his club team. Oyongo, with the Montreal Impact, has developed into a regular in Cameroon’s starting lineup.
